ROOIBOS CUSTARD CREAMS. you guys have to try this!

guys, this is so yummy and easy to make. phillip arrived home from work as i was putting them in the oven. he's my guinee pig for all the things i try out in the kitchen!
ok so here's the recipe: (it serves 6)
  • preheat oven to 160 C. over a gentle heat, warm 2 cups full-cream milk and 2 rooibos teabags to infuse. remove from heat, allow to cool slightly, then remove tea bags.
  • whisk together 2 eggs, 1/3 cup castor sugar, a pinch of salt and 1/2 tsp vanilla essence. pour the warm milk into the egg mixture and beat well. strain through a fine mesh sieve.
  • pour into 200ml capacity glass custard cups or ramekins. place in a roasting tin and pour in hot water halfway up the dishes. bake in the oven for 45 minutes or until an inserted skewer comes out clean.
  • allow to cool and refrigerate for 2 hours. dust with icing sugar and cinnamon before serving.
enjoy!

i am in love with my new dressing table! we got it from Palet in Maritzburg for less than 2 grand. so chuffed. our room is slowly starting to look like a room :) we've ordered bedside tables and a head board, now all we need is a cupboard! I also want to put up some stressed-wood frames for our wedding pics on our bedroom wall. and guys, my birthday is in June by the way! hint hint....
Thanks Charles and Luan for our pots, we love them! I can't wait to plant things in them :) These pots are from Highfeild Manufacturing in Maritzburg.

phillip goes for a run

Look how chuffed he looks to be going for a run! I'm so impressed with him, it's the first time that I haven't had to force him to come running with me. It was actually his idea to go for a run this morning! Let's see how long this carries on for :) We're off on our day fishing trip now, lets hope my fly fishing skills have improved... watch this space

taking the dogs to the vet, FARM STYLE.

A visit to the vet for these farm dogs is far from conventional. Milo has been looking very droopy over the last few days, and the according to the vet, it's from chewing on disgusting things like dead cows! how gross is that. On top of that, on our way home, Milo decided he wanted to see what would happen if he jumped off the back of our bakkie travelling at 60km/h on the dirt road. Lets just say he's learnt his lesson!
While all this was happening, Button sat innocently enjoying her puppy privilege: sitting in the car with us :)

yup, you guessed it, VALENTINES day xoxo

this day was awesome! Phillip was so cute, he's not a morning person at all, but he woke up early just to make me breakfast and write me a card! phillip writing me a card is a very rare event, so it was super special! it was addressed to me, from my not so secret admirer :)

when i came home from boot camp, phillip had brought 2 beautiful standard roses to plant in my garden. and then at lunch time he came home with this stunning bouquet. cutest ever!

to finish off the day, we had a picnic when he came home from work. thanks my love, i'm so blessed to have you in my life.

lots and lots of love and kisses

Our House Warming

On Friday the 3rd of Feb, the planning and preparation for the big house warming began! Starting with the Underberg nursery. Thanks to Luan for stocking us up with loads of beautiful flowers for our garden. Charles and Luan were a huge help. They brought plates, bowls, chairs for the house warming, and they brought our piano from Joan! We couldn't have done it without you guys.

Next up was the arrival of my parents and grandparents. They drove a long way to be with us for our house warming. Here's Phillip, my dad and my grandad watching the cricket like 3 peas in a pod. Thank you so much for being here, and for bringing all that food! We will certainly be stocked up for a while. Also, thanks Aunty Susie for the preserves!

On Saturday morning, after my mom and I got back from our appointment with Kim Crouch, the Baking began. Here are the famous Cornish Pasties, with a special mention to the "tiny baby" Cornish Pasty on the right. I baked that specially for Phillip because he just couldn't wait till the house warming to sample one! I also made a big apple crumble with apples from William and Roxy's apple tree, and a bar one pudding that went down very well on the night! I'll have to put that recipe on my blog, seeing as though everyone was asking for it!

Once the everything was in place, I was free to shower and get ready, while people started to trickle in. Soon enough, the house was packed with people. There was music, chatting, braaing and of course rugby! Struan, thanks for lending us your huge braai, it worked out so well! And thanks to Jules Stone, Roxy Luan, Karen, my parents and grandparents for bringing all that food! Luan, your potato bake was so delicious.

Sunday rolled around quicker than any of us expected, and it was already time for my parentals to leave. We had such a good time. Thanks for coming everyone! Rene,Karen,Pam Stone and Pam Storah: thank you for my beautiful pom pom tree, the vinyl art and mag, the book on love and respect and the pretty candle and wine! And last but not least, thank you Kanyo for coming in the next morning and cleaning up the house!

Lots of love

No place like Home

As I sit here eating my cinnamon oats ( mmm ) , i'm looking back on the last 6 months of my marriage, and i'm so proud of how far we've come. the farm has truly become home for me, and i'm so grateful for it. this is where God has placed me, and i couldn't be more happy! this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it :)

I mean, who wouldn't be happy sharing a bed with this guy !! And he's all mine, forever. and ever :)

I love our little farm adventures- discovering new critters, finding dams to swim in and grassy picnic spots, herding cows out of the garden and frequenting the various pubs in the area!
I couldn't be more proud of my crop! Here's the latest- cauliflower and broccoli. I absolutely cannot wait to buy my day olds and get cracking with layers! ( thats farm lingo for, i'm getting chickens. hehe! )
and the absolute highlight of my life at the moment- SUNFLOWERS !! i saw these beautiful things when i got back from cape town, and i nearly cried with joy ! love it. can you believe those things started from seeds. that i planted. IN the ground !!

lots and lots of love
